Running for a Good Cause

The Silver Lining Run for Dreams is a charity run organized by the Kinderkrebs Network. The first event took place in 2022 in Essen-Rüttenscheid, and it is set to expand in the coming years.

The goal is to raise awareness about the challenges faced by children with severe illnesses and to support research into new therapies for pediatric oncology and other rare, malignant diseases in children through donations.

The Kinderkrebs Network and the Pediatric Research Network support numerous projects aimed at helping critically ill children, adolescents, and their families navigate the emotional and physical challenges of their illness.

How It Works

The Run for Dreams, held under the patronage of Mayor Thomas Kufen, is a fundraising event where Individual runners, groups, and children can participate. Instead of a registration fee, each runner must raise at least 50€ in donations following a fundraising model. If a participant is unable to attend, the donation remains and still supports the cause.

All donations go directly to research and therapy projects that benefit young patients. The event itself, along with all associated costs, is fully funded by sponsorships. Local businesses had the opportunity to promote their brand by booking sponsorship packages at varying levels.

Run for Dreams 2022

5 good reasons to take part in the Run for Dreams.

Running means healing!

In Europe, 35,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year. There are many different forms, and the causes of these diseases are barely known. This makes childhood cancer one of the rarest diseases overall, which means that there is a lack of important research, but above all a lack of innovative drugs, for many reasons. As a result, survival rates have improved only slowly over the last 20 years and children continue to be treated with drugs that are sometimes over 50 years old.

The treatment plans are not only outdated but are also associated with many side effects and leave around two thirds of the children who are cured with severe long-term consequences. As a non-profit organization, we want to improve the situation of the children in the long term. We support the further development of diagnostics for clinical pictures, research into the development of the respective diseases and the development of treatment recommendations and protocols. And for this we need your donations!

Running means community!

Running, walking, crawling or being carried? It doesn't matter! You don't have to be an athlete: Run for Dreams unites people of all ages and physical abilities. They all have one thing in common: the desire to improve treatment for children with cancer. Make an appointment with friends, work colleagues, your school class or the whole family. The run is the perfect opportunity to do good together!

Running means solidarity!

The Run for Dreams is a good opportunity for families who have an affected child themselves to meet other affected families and exchange ideas. It is also an opportunity for friends and colleagues to support all affected families during this difficult time. Join in and experience this special, positive and moving moment that honors those who are fighting or have fought cancer. It is a sign of hope and solidarity. Run for those who can't run themselves.

Running keeps you fit!

400 m, 2.5 km, 5 km or 10 km - choose the challenge that suits you best! Everyone is on the move and doing something good for their own health. In fact, this is also the perfect opportunity to get into the sport and pursue a common goal!

The Olympic idea counts: Taking part is everything!

Even those who are not running are very welcome. You are in the right place to cheer at the start and finish as well as along the entire route! Here you can follow everything and create a good atmosphere on the roadside while the runners you support give their best.
